A Spa Night at Alpamare
You may remember in my last blog post that I alluded to an evening I had spent with Caroline, and a group of other lovely ladies, enjoying a Spa evening at the Wellness Spa at Alpamare, here in Scarborough. Well, I had such a fabulous time, that I thought I would share more about it. You will have to forgive me, I was enjoying the whole experience so much that I didn’t take too many photographs.
The occasion we were celebrating was Caroline’s birthday, and we arrived shortly after 5pm. Having been checked in, and changed into swimsuits and fluffy robes, we were shown to a lounging area overlooking the pools below. It was here that our meals were to be served at the attractive table which had been set up, in that same lounge area.

It wasn’t long before we were seated, and our two course meal was being served. I had ordered a vegetarian curry and, I have to say, because it’s a spa and water park, I was a little sceptical as to what the quality of the food would be like. I need not have worried, it was delicious, as was the Christmas pudding that followed.

We enjoyed the meal at a leisurely pace, discussing everything from motherhood to personal goals, before heading into the main event, the spa area. Personally, I’ve never had the opportunity of visiting a spa before, so I was terribly excited. Caroline and Rachel had both been before and so, were able to explain the different rooms and experiences.
There are a great variety of rooms to relax in and be enveloped by beautiful soothing steam or warming sauna, I think I tried them all, and indulged in the spa’s delightful Aufguss ceremony. What’s that? I hear you ask. Well everyone gathers in the seaview sauna which, since it was night, didn’t afford the seaview, but you can see on the website how fabulous it is to see during the light. Then, in turn, beautiful herbs are put onto the sauna in blocks of ice. As it melts the beautiful smells are wafted towards you, it’s just amazing … then you step out into the freezing cold air Scandinavian style.

After much more relaxing, good conversation and a laughter filled mud rhassul, we ended the night with an outdoor swim in the heated infinity pool. It’s quite a special experience swimming at night in an illuminated and heated outdoor pool when all you can see out to sea are the lights of ships in the distance.
It was a fantastic and indulgent evening. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the spa at Alpamare to anyone, I just can’t wait to do it all again.
